Central Bank: A bright future for Hongkong Dim sum bonds

BEIJING, March 12, 2016 - From a mid-term perspective, the dim sum bonds would have a bright future, China's central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said on Saturday.

Zhou made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the country's ongoing annual parliamentary session.

It was due to fluctuations of the Chinese Yuan's value against the U.S. dollar, and that would be temporary, Zhou responded to the doubt towards the ever-shrinking Hongkong Dim sum bonds issuance.

"The development of Hong Kong's offshore Chinese Yuan market is unchanged. The market's business will expand further," said Yi Gang, vice governor of the central bank. He also stressed that the central bank's support for the market remains unchanged.

"In general, the bonds market, onshore or offshore, has a significant room for expansion," Zhou added.
